For Olbermann fans only

If you do not like Keith Olbermann, MSNBC’s Countdown, or Festivus, move along please. This piece is only for fans.

Twas the Night before Festivus

by LRLine, c. 2008

(With apologies to Clement Clark Moore)

Twas the night before Festivus, when all through the blog
Not a creature was stirring, not even a frog.
The photos were hung by the bloggers with care,
In hopes that Keith Olbermann soon would be there.

The bloggers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Keithiness danced in their heads.
And CLL in her snuggies, and caul in his cap
Had just settled their brains for a two week nap.

When out on the blogosphere there arose such a clatter,
to a man they hit keyboards to see what was the matter.
Away to the terminal I flew like a flash,
Opened the window and threw up the cache.

The brightness and constrast of the just opened screen
Gave the brilliance of kodachrome to objects then seen,
When, what to my wondering eyes did appear
But Countdown himself and his guests very near.

With this merry person, someone also in tow
I knew in a moment it was Rachel Maddow.
More rapid than eagles his guests they all came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

“Now Richard! now, Eugene! now, Howard and Chris!
On, David! On, everyone! the shows they don’t miss!
To the top of the list! to answer the call!
Now write away! Write away! Right away, all!”

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky–
So to the top of the ratings the programs they flew,
With the network full of skittles and Olbermann too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roofa
The giggles and chortles while handing out loofa
As I drew in my head, and was purely agog,
As Phil Griffin himself came to check out the blog.

Diogenes’ pictures covered Keith head to his foot
And his clothes were just nifty and ties matched his suit
All comments were graced with rec’s and with style
And he looked like an angel with his devilish smile.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his quips oh how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His eyebrow was arched, drawn up like a bow,
His delivery perfect, just come from his show.

He was totally perfect, a right jolly good elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And met all the bloggers, then turned with a jerk.
He flashed me the signal, that of test pattern six
And I knew all the fruit cups he was going to fix.

He’d be doing Sports Center for 2009
And we knew that Countdown was going to be fine,
So laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up into vapor he rose!

He gathered his troops, to his team gave a whistle,
And they all signed off like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he faded from sight,
“Happy Festivus to all, and to all a good-night!”
